BEAN SOUP
« on: Dec 05, 2018, 07:50 PM »
If you happen to end up with a nice meaty ham bone left over from the holidays, Here is my Easy Bean Soup recipe to try.

BEAN WITH HAM SOUP

Ingredients:
4 Smoked Ham Hocks
Two 48 oz. jars of “Randall Brand” ready to serve Great Northern Beans. (I used to prep and soak my own beans, I don't anymore)
2 quarts of very cold water
1 cup sliced celery
1 cup diced onion
1 cup shredded carrots
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/2 cup diced sweet red pepper
1 TBS minced garlic
1 TBS granulated chicken bouillon
1 tsp coarse ground black pepper

Preparation:
1 - Add 2 quarts of very cold water to a large stockpot.

2 - Add ham hocks, then bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour.

3 – Remove ham hocks and set aside to cool slightly.

4 - Add remaining ingredients except for the beans and meat, simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.

5 –Remove all meat from the slightly cooled ham hocks and separate with your fingers.

6 - Add hock meat and beans, simmer for 30 minutes or until soup slightly thickens.

Salt and Pepper to taste.
Serve and enjoy!

Note: Smoked Hocks, Shanks or a nice Ham Bone all work great.

Good Luck All

Never had bean soup, till I met my Wifer  35 yrs. ago, & it is pretty much a  once a month deal ,around here.  She adds a bit of brown sugar to it & a chopped up tater . Other than that, its pretty much the same recipe. Gotta have Cornbread w/ it, too ! The ready to use beans ,are the way to go ,

Looks delicious, one of my favorite soups is HamBeens 15 bean soup, I use both smoked pork hocks and smoked sausage in it, makes one of the best soups I have ever tasted.

Looks great! In our home the soups and stews are my preview, except for bean soup and chicken. She makes the very best!

This sounds great and in motion today here. Thanks for sharing.
I raise most my meats, grow my vegetables and herbs , including the garlic.
Really getting into the cooking and true smokehouse more and more. Our grocery shopping is no longer for food and we feel better as well as saving a ton of money.

I'm following this recipe on point except I'm a crock pot cooker.  All the stock will crock cook for 4hrs.

Have a nice ham bone from last night. ;D  I use the same basic recipe but usually add some fire roasted corn and mushrooms. Thanks; you reminded me how much I like making soup with a ham bone.
