« on: Feb 26, 2009, 10:41 AM »
I just picked up a used JiffyLegend lightning 8 inch. with 2 hp 49cc Tecumseh.

This is the first power auger I have owned.

What oil and what mix should I use.

I got an icegator this year. It works great and fast. There was a guy with a strikemaster lite gas auger and my icegator blew him away. But the Icegator is also heavier than his gas auger was. I am still gettin gused to carrying around with me. Right now I just set it on top of my flip-over shelter.

Congradulations  on your 1st power auger. You won't want to use the hand auger again.

This was my 1st year useing Amsoil. I will never look back at the old 2 cycle oil again. I ran 90:1 to 100:1 and my auger NEVER ran better. It is a little more $ but after you try it, it won't matter.

Just my $.02

Jiffy makes their own 2 stroke oil, that might not be a bad start.  Enjoy that Jiffy, they can last a long time, and they can drill an ton of holes on one tank of gas

unlike the gator, you don't have to worry about running out of battery if your drilling alot of holes, just keep fuel in it, and it will run forever!

Hmm the OP asked about oil and gets Icegator BS. ::)

I have been using Amsoil Sabre Professional mixed at 70:1. Since your auger is broken in I would use a full synthetic 2-stroke oil with a leaner ratio. I have never used it but Opti 2 is a very popular sunthetic oil as well.

Here are two links to 2 2hp Jiffy operator manuals. It says 3.2 ounces per gallon of gas (40 to 1).
