Carry Bay ice conditions?
« on: Mar 18, 2017, 11:27 AM »
Hoping to hear an ice report from anyone who actually fished there this weekend (fishing report would be cool, also!)   I wasn't able to go today, went hunting instead, for houses.

At Carry Bay now as I type this. Obviously I'm only typing this now because fishing is slow. One pike on tip ups , 6 pickerel.just got a flag now. 8" ice another 9" packed snow. All the jiggers went home but 2
Load it, Drive it, Park it
Bait it, Jig it, Hook it
Catch it, Clean it, Cook it
Simply put just get out/ and do it

Many thanks for the recon! I'd be more than happy with the amount of action you've had, but, this my first season back on ice in a long while.

not exaggerating, it was for sure one of the slowest days of fishing I've ever had on the ice

Crayfish2 and I were the two guys that worked our way in front of the cedars, then cut across towards the point. Watched you guys catch a couple of those fish. You guys did much better than the other pike fishing group that set up next to you. They told us that they didn't catch a thing.

Yeah, it was extremely slow.  I actually outfished Perchbait , which has to be a first, but I only caught maybe 6 bluegills and 2 'seeds.  We caught a bunch of the tiniest perch I've ever seen off the point due west of you guys.  For all of our effort I had 1 nice bluegill in my bucket (first fish of the day) and gave it to one of the "jiggers" as we were leaving the ice.

I'm no expert on Carry Bay but I think that patch of water is semi-comatose. Spent 6 hours today , two keeper perch and one almost-spooled tip-up.

I think the fish are out near the tressle bridge and have left the flats.
I was skunked until I got out to 10-12FOW then starting catching some.
It s a LONG walk out to the drop off so, eat your wheaties!

I think that you're right Mudchuck. You can hit the gills good early in the season, but then most of them must take to the deeper water. Not much current in there so maybe the O2 levels are getting low once the shallow weeds start to decompose?

They'll be spawning then, yeah. They don't stage too far away from where they eventually spawn.

If anyone fishes it today or tomorrow, could you please post conditions.

I will be islands bound Saturday for my last time out this season.  May fish Carry, Keelers, or Sandbar.  I have never been able to bring myself to fish sandbar, but we shall see.  Panfish'n and bringing a couple tipups for pike, just incase I catch a few goldens.

The ice at Sandbar hasn't looked good all season .... and there hasn't been a soul on it the last few times we've been by.  Not sure I'd risk getting wet there.  Keeler's has been getting pounded this week (Lavigne Rd).  I think I'd try there if I were you.  Carry was a "dead hole" a couple of weeks ago, as you can see from the posts above.

Thanks, forecast isn't very good for Friday and Saturday.  I might end up just putting the gear away, but we shall see.
