Trip suggestions
« on: Nov 13, 2018, 06:19 AM »
How about a few suggestions for a ice fishing trip starting in early January. No need to mention Erie, that's a giving if we get ice. I like tip up fishing for any species. Self guided. Within lets say 6 hrs give or take an hr from northern Indiana. Big pike /walleye/ bass, pan fish while waiting for tip ups. Thanks

Saginaw Bay, if it has ice, is always a fun trip. Another possibility (little bit further of a drive) is Burt Lake in Indian River, MI. I am originally from the Grand Rapids area and know a lot of ice fishing spots in Michigan.

Check into Castle Rock and Petenwell Flowage in Wisconsin.  We didn't catch a ton of numbers the time I was there, but we did catch some nice crappie.  Both places have plenty of fishable area to spread out, and access was pretty easy.  I'm thinking they were around the 5-6 hour mark or so from northern Indiana.  I would also consider Lake Winnebago if I was going, although I have never been there.  I think you could expect more walleye in there.

If you have never done one of the sleeper shack trips I would highly recommend it. A few friends and i spent a few nights in one on lake of the woods. Fishing was slow but we had a blast living on the ice.

we've gone to Lac vieux desert on the Wisconsin/Michigan border the last few years. There seem to more Northern in  that lake than any other species. We go out of Winddrift resort.
