New Water 2019
« on: Nov 03, 2018, 01:19 PM »
Looking to make another trip to the Webster area in January. Have been doing a trip there for 10+ years and am looking for new water to try. Have fished all the major bodies of waters over the years but we are looking for new waters to try. Any suggestions?  Targeting mostly perch but not opposed to chasing walleyes.
Thanks for any suggestions

Don't take this the wrong way, but more and more people are getting tight lipped on the internet about where they are catching perch, especially on smaller non-meandered bodies of water.  with the water levels trending lower we've lost a lot of habitat conducive to those big perch numbers.  What I've started doing is looking back at lakes/sloughs that I caught quality fish in 3-4 years ago, and if water levels are still reasonable, I'm going back and putting some time in to see if there's another good year class in there.  A lot of guys chase the GFP netting reports, and that works occasionally, but also brings a lot of pressure with it.  Gone are the days when seemingly every slough was capable of turning out buckets of 12" perch.

If your trips have always had you staying right around webster in the past, maybe look south towards Clark or Watertown if you want to explore new water.

Yeah I get what you're saying. We are always willing to drive to different places oh an hour away or so. We drive down to dry and Poinsett from year to year too. Just was interested in starting some chatter :). But I too study the charts and look back at some history. Thanks for your feedback on what you look for. Won't be long before we are on the ice.

A couple hour drive isn't bad if can chase perch and stay on them throughout the day. Makes a long drive home when you get skunked.

Glad There are still good sportsman out there, Douglas,12icefish, I applaud you! thanks for keeping in touch, I will gladly share my information with you, as you have also offered to me. There are selfish people who Will never get it!!! They will quickly judge you and are so selfish that they will never give the slightest hint of where they might have been successful.  Looking for another great season in the lovely state of South Dakota. What do u think🤔,??? Are the Cropee gonna be big again this year on optiz???😊

I appreciate the tone of this thread and look forward to providing valid feedback of "New Water" from our few lakes down in the Southeast part of the lake.  Although mainly pan fish- a good time and a short drive can be had when the time is right.
