Fit to be tied
« on: Aug 21, 2018, 07:51 PM »
I have a couple of Fiskas tungstens that have no eyelet in them but rather a hole through the body. Best way to tie them on?

Basically, go through the hole and snell the hook shank.

The non slip loop knot (aka Rapala knot) will work if they are balanced from that hole.

I've never seen a jig like that.  What's the advantage of that, versus a traditional eyelet?

Neither had I but got an e-mail from Jamie @ yourbobbersdown and said they are deadly. My guess is that they have better balance than ones with eyelets and the Snell Knot makes for less break offs. I'm going to try them anyway....I have 'em...why not?

very good concept for keeping the jig horizontal. I believe the russian jigs had some made that way. The gold one's were good for me,         Mormyshka Jigs

I never saw jigs like that and if I did I wouldn't buy them but that's just me.  I agree with the others that it'd be a pain to tie them on your line.

Have some jigs like that the my grandparents brought back from Norway. They hang perfectly horizontal and are deadly on 'gills!

Traditional Mormyskas from Russia and Poland have been made like that for many years. Some guys I know use nothing but those on a little palm rod and are deadly fishermen.

I was listening to a podcast on a road trip this weekend.  There was a guy who was on the national icing team for a time and talked about these jigs used with palm rods when competing in Europe.  Thru the hole and snell the hook in back.  In addition to making the jig balance there was something or other to do with the knot strength  when fishing very small diameter lines,.  Everything with the palm rod setup it seems is for detecting the lightest strikes.  Coordinating the weight of the tiny jig, the diameter or the line and selecting the specific spring bobber seems to be critical.  im going to try it this year just for fun.  Relatively inexpensive.
