DIY drill plate
« on: Feb 17, 2018, 08:55 PM »
When it’s mid February and you want a clam plate but nobody has any. Couple nights work with two bearings and thumb throttle like my gas auger. Could have made it smaller but I’m considering it a prototype. Mostly made with 1/2 inch plastic so not terrible heavy but about 12 lbs with drill.

Not yet but see no reason it shouldn’t be fine. 15 lbs with drill and big battery. After looking at it I think I will remake the main plastic plate and make it 2 inches narrower and 3-4 inches shorter it’s a little big!

nice job, but why 2 bearings? Now the drill has to be in perfect alignment I would think. Mine only had 1 bearing and it worked just fine.

Why do you need bearings? If the drill is well supported isn't that sufficient. i.e the support just replaces the person's hand. When drilling by hand using an elec drill w/o a plate there are no bearings. Just curious.

thx

2 bearings just to take the side to side pressure off the drill chuck.

But is there any more pressure when using a plate than just using it by hand?

2 bearings just to take the side to side pressure off the drill chuck.

With mine the shaft is able to pivot in the bearing sleeve to align things up. If I remember right 2 points form a line, 3 points equal a plane. Meaning it is harder too line up 3 points (2 bearings and a drill) than just the drill and one bearing.
Just my way of thinking. But it must be working for you and that's all that matters.

I seen that looks good. Yes it works great with two bearings and drill in a plane. But will be making the main plate a little smaller maybe today if I find time
