Transducer angle 20 degree area
« on: Dec 31, 2018, 02:16 PM »
I lack math very badly and need to figure my area of coverage with a 20 degree cone angle in 10 foot increments down to 200 feet.  I have hunted the net and came up empty. After all, we are all about fishing, not hunting.

Vexilar has a chart covering 10 foot increments down to 150'. Rule of thumb is a 20° transducer covers an area on the bottom of approximately one third of the depth.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Not certain you want to use such a wide angle in such deep water

Going by memory I’m pretty sure it’s about 3 1/2 foot for every 10 foot.

If it is a 20 degree included angle, the radius is depth*tan(20/2) or .176- so for 10 feet it is 1.76 radius or 3.62 diameter. For Area take Pi*r^2 or for 10 feet again, 3.1416*1.76^2 or 9.73 square feet at 10 foot depth.

For the general case, the diameter of the circle is .362* depth, and the area is the depth^2*.0973

Hope I did that right!  ???
