So last year when I went night fishing I brought along some LED strips to light the shanty. I also brought twist ties along to secure them to the roof rods. While trying to unroll the waterproof strip it kept cracking as the plastic coating was to brittle due to the temperature. Fortunately they still functioned and supplied us with a tremendous amount of light.
This year I have made a better unit. I bought a15M strip of LEDS off Ebay and cut it to the lengths I wanted and soldered them all together. I had these aluminum bars and decided to attach the LED strips to them. I have learned in the past that attaching these tape backed lights to metal can cause a short if the tape fails, so I first covered the aluminum with a strip of duct tape. Next I attached the lights to the bars. Knowing that the double stick tape on the lights can and will fail, I wrapped them to the bar with packaging tape. I attached one end of them together with Para cord and put Velcro on the other end to wrap around the hub rods.
On the power line I attached an RF module that makes these lights remote control. Heck, for $2.59 who wouldn't. LOL The remote makes the lights dimmable which is the reason I added it.
I put a Deans connector just after the RF module so I can make different cords for the unit. In the pics you see it running straight off a Lipo battery but I also have a cord to run to a 12V battery on the floor of the shanty.
I will be making a PVC tube case for transporting this unit on and off the ice.
This should work well for us this season.
