On Ice Minnow Storage
« on: Dec 02, 2005, 03:40 PM »
Take a old pickle jar or mayo jar and punch a bunch of holes in the top.  Then put an eye bolt in the top.  When you auger your holes in the shanty go outside and auger one as close to one of the corner holes as you can.  Take a scrap piece of wood and tie on about 6-8' of light rope and also tie the other end on the pickle jar.  Drop the jar down the hole outside and take a stretched out coat hanger and hook the rope from the inside of the shanty.  When you are done fishing for the day pour your minnows into the jar and drop the jar down the hole.  When you come back out to fish you re-auger your holes in the shanty and hook the rope with your coat hanger.  No more worries about keeping your minnows alive at home and they are acclimated to the colder water on the lake as well.  When you decide to move your shanty pull the jar up into the shanty, cut the rope and move.

Take a piece of 3" PVC pipe about 18" long. Permanently cap one end and drill a small hole in the other end cap. Feed a eye bolt through the hole and secure. Now drill holes about 4" apart in rows down the pipe. Then take a nylon braided rope (or what you have available) and tie it to the eye bolt. Then take a piece of 12" closet pole type of material and drill a hole through the middle of that. Now run your rope through the hole and knot it. Now you can put your minnows in there, cap it and drop it down a hole and lay the round piece across the top of the hole. Your minnows will be in the water and ready to go.
