How much longer until I can get onto the ice. I hope sooner than Jan 1. Any predictions?
-
I expect be on the ice on December 1st. I'll be over 3 feet of water so thin ice isn't a big deal.

christmas in southern maine I bet

Every year I judge first ice by the first sale of bait to someone going to fish on the Turner boat launch on the Andro. My guess this year is 11/27.

we have been getting cold nights below freezing so im sure some of the small ponds will be ready soon.

Had cold nights but to much wind to make ice. Need cold nights with no wind. Or special places that have been in the ley

been teens at night , 20's during the day so it won't be too long now.
-
Water temp has to be getting close to 32 degrees in most waters here in Cumberland County. If we get a few days in a row of sub freezing temps during the day I would expect we will be walking on water soon! Long range is dancing around freezing temps but no single digits...I would say Christmas fishing is a possibility.

I set bait traps today so with any luck I'll be setting flags in the next day or 2.

I hope it's sooner than later, looks like by Dec 14 the night's start to drip won't be long.
-
Opening day on "A" ponds is tomorrow. There's one pond near me that freezes early so I'm going to try.
-
Caribou lake froze up last week 9° one night. But the so wind opened it up before noon.
-
After mid next week, temps are going to drop like a rock, barely be above freezing during the day. 4 days of that and i think a lot of the small stuff will be ready.
-
Looks like it's time to get things ready. Hope its a good year.

With this wet snow it will slow down the ice freeze.

Just when we get skimmed over enough on many ponds, that will now be covered. The places that haven’t skimmed over yet will now prob lock up but with frozen slush. If only we get to have nice clear black ice for a while.

fished a small lake for smelts yesterday. we managed 7 doz. and over a doz. brookies. put a good dent in the fallfish population wth 60 of those to feed the foxes and coyotes. .about 6in. of good ice. were the 1st ones out. was nice to wet a line. set for bait for awhile.
