Title: coleman focus 5 tech
Post by: billybono on Feb 09, 2005, 06:40 PM
anyone using one of these have a problem with the propane canisters freezing??? i can run it for about 15 minutes and then the canister is froze and output slows(unless you shake the heater, then it will come back for 30 seconds). today i had 2 canisters and kept swapping them putting the froze one in front of the heater. anyone else have any problems like this

Are you running it on the low setting?  Maybe try running it on high to keep the flow moving so that it won't freeze?

actually i was thinking it was from running it on the high setting(faster escape of gas) was freezing it up. but it will do it on low also. there isn't much to this thing just wondering if it happened to anyone else

The only time I had a problem like that was fishing at - 18 degrees a few years back. I've had mine about 15 years and that was the only time.

hmmmm. thanks for the reply. I'm wondering if this thing is not regulating fuel properly. when yours runs, is there a small ball of flame around the burner in addition tho the burner glowing red??? I'm going to take it apart and try to clean out the orifice at the inside of the burner and see if this helps

If you have a small flame around the burner either it's very dirty or on it's way out. There are still "new" burners available on e-bay but they're pricey. I've seen them run anywhere from $40 thru $75 a piece. They are the whole assembly tube - not just the burners.

ive been on ebay and seen em. it seems to be the same guy sitting on a bunch of em. i cleaned it and it seems to have solved my problem. I'm still going to try and get a bunch of burners but mid February isn't the cheapest time ;) . also after doing some research, Ive found  Coleman focus 3 heater parts. although i have never seen one yet, the burner bulb(its removable on both models) appears to be the same. so for the hell of it i ordered on to see if its exactly the same thing. i have my doubts though as i imagine the focus 3 is less BTU. ill report on my findings
