If it is just for setting up then you don't need to "Mark" the line... I don't want to come off as a wise a@@, but the thread is about Line Markers, not sounders...
I use buttons on my traps!
You get a flag, you look down the hole, the spool is not turning, a visible marker lets you know if the fish just bumped it, went a few feet and stopped or went so far that you no longer see the marker. When I walk up to a "Flag" I want as much info as I can get, if that information is not important to you, then you don't need to mark you line...
No reason to mark your line if you know exactly where it is
People mark there line so if they get a flag, they do not need to resound the hole.
REALLY? I had no idea
Wellyou did say you dont know why people need to mark their lines
the only time I don't bother marking my line is if I'm salmon fishing right under the ice of fishing for trout right up next to shore! It makes no sense to me not to mark your line if your fishing towards the bottom or anyware in between.
Can't get any cheaper then a slip knot. Just make sure you only loop 1 side or you will spend time taking a real knot out. Or in my case have several depths marked permanently.
A steel tipped dart is a great tool for digging out unruly knots.
Thanks! that will actually fit in my pack basket
I took an old small screwdriver that was broke at the tip and gound it off to a point, thats fits in the tackle box good too.
I double the line over and make a slip knot and then I double over the part that gets tightened so it easily unties...What you wind up with is a slip knot with one loop on one side of the knot and two loops on the other...you pull the one loop side and it comes right out
