Okuma baitfeeder 500 or 1000
« on: Jan 25, 2020, 01:35 PM »
Hi guys.

I found out about these reels the other day and like many will be attaching it to a deadstick. The deadstick will be used strictly for walleye. It will be going on a 32-36 inch deadstick. I fish for walleye typically in 40' or less.

So the 500 series or the 1000?

Thanks for you opinions

Cheers

awesome reel for a deadstick, no need to worry about what rod you put it on or bells or any of that nonsense.  i have the large size from a few years back and it works fine for ice fishing but sure doesn't balance on a 30" rod.  just ordered the 500 and can't wait to put it in the arsenal.

I put the 500 & 1000 side by side and the body size seemed identical.  The spool was smaller on the 500 so I chose the 1000.  I’d rather have higher line capacity with everything else being equal.  Caught pike on it on Friday combined with Finicky Fooler.  It was everything I hoped it would be. Very happy with both.

I'd go with the 1000, more versatility to use in open water as well.

If this is accurate definitely the 1000. Explains why I was disappointed in the size of the 500. Decent reel but not what you'd expect for 500 sized when compared to other okuma reels
