Lake Trout in Maine
« on: Feb 06, 2024, 11:32 AM »
Hey Guys,

Since Sebago is probably the least cooperative lake to freeze over, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for where else i could get on some lakers through the ice this week.

I’m yet to pull one through the ice so that’s my goal for the season. Southern Maine is preferred but I’ve never minded a drive. Feel free to PM me too :icefish

Thanks guys!

I've never caught one either but I've been hearing that they're catching them on Middle Range (and even here on Upper Range, which is less common).

Moosehead for sheer numbers.  We did 2 big trips to Ross Lake, with 10 guys and 4 days.  Ross Lake Camps are more than adequate,  and caught several togue 5lbs+, and lost a couple that were much larger.  Lot of planning, but worth it as an adventure

Ice Shanty was completely different 20 years ago than what you see now but then again so was society.  I can tell you this, you sure needed thicker skin than what we see today! ;D

It is unfortunate that people have to act the way they do. Is it really gonna hurt you to give ice thickness for a place if you know it? Is it gonna hurt to tell someone maybe a certain lure or technique? I mean this is a place for ice fishing enthusiasts to talk ice fishing. To be all high and mighty to tell someone to figure it out yourself is just disgusting. Just my opinion. I'm sure someone helped you along the way.
Fishing is easy. Catching is the hard part.

Seems odd. I didn't see anything "offensive" in any of them. Certainly not in my posts that were removed. What the heck?

Hey guy,

Thanks to everyone who replied, i managed to get my first lake trout through the ice within 30 minutes of me setting up, and then 7 more after that. Definitely my new favorite fish to chase under the ice

Good for you Z! Catching eight, on your first attempt no less, is a nice day.

All my posts got deleted. Nice. Haha. To me there’s a fine line between asking for every little detail about a place and doing some research on your own. There’s plenty of good info out there if you just do a little research.

You could always try Thompson lake in Casco / Otisfield . I have not fished it this year but in the past there are Lakers . Not much size to them but did good on #’s . The Heath end is usually thicker.
I heard from someone only 4” at the 121 side .

They deleted my post that just mentioned public access points to the Range Ponds and their current condition. And the one about Cyndis restaurant.
Not "secret" info.

It’s funny because the moderators used to crack down on people posting for info especially if it was their first ever post.
