got to fish winnie this afternoon
« on: Jan 22, 2010, 09:49 PM »
well took the family to winnibigoshis this afternoon. didn't take long for the action to start. got some good advice on a starting point from nodak lodge.  i seemed to have way better luck on a red glow rattlin flyer than any other lure or even the live minnows. got a nice 10" perch on a walleye tip up and a small northern on another, but that was it for flags. the rest of the fish were off a red and silver swedish pimple and the red flyer. didn't get any reall jumbo's but alot of good eaters.

teachin the kids.

tullibee? cisco? whitefish? not sure but stunk to high heaven.

Looks like a cisco (aka tulibee).
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

Yep. They can stink. Some worse than others. We catch some when we fish for lakers one in a while. Very oily meat. I believe the oil is what causes the smell. Throw it in the smoker.
If it wasn't for trout fishin', my wife would have a husband.

Took a trip to Winne last year caught a few and they really stink.  Could not get the smell off my hands all day.  Larry at Nodak said the are a main food source for the northerns and suggested releasing them.
