Pretty good day.
« on: Feb 08, 2024, 09:31 AM »
Not a bad day out with friends and nice weather.
Managed 9 bass and I think 6 pickerel .
Few other decent bass so far this crazy season.
Who thought it would be worse this year than last?
Ponds in the birkshire hills that should have 12-14" have about 8" and half that is crap white ice.
We were on 5½ in Central mass but after today and tomorrow, that will be sketchy until the next cold snap coming.
I hope you're all having a safe and good season so far.
Here's a few of the better ones so far.

Nice work, always a good trip when you catch 15 fish and most of them are good sized. I'm surprised this years ice has been worse than last years in your area. Despite the later start, this year has been a lot better than last year in my area of south central MA. Last year there was safe ice where I live for a grand total of 6 days the entire season and only on the smallest ponds. This year there's been safe ice every time I've gone out since January 5th, I've gotten on larger waterbodies and judging by next week's temps it looks like we'll be ice fishing at least deep into February.

You misunderstood my post. The Berkshire's have much less than they should
I'm from central mass. I checked a pond today in Central mass that has more than the hills in the Berkshire's. That's what is crazy.  I'm fishing ponds this year in my neighborhood that never froze enough last year.  The overall winter for the state is worse this year.

Nice bunch of healthy fish. And your right with the ice thickness NW, as it’s been only 6”-7” in most places I’ve been.
