Slow on the Ice, Better on the Brook
« on: Feb 03, 2024, 04:25 PM »
Today I did a bit of multi-tasking in North Adam.

First, I did some jigging on Fish Pond (a/k/a Windsor Lake) from about 10 AM to 12 noon.

The weather was ideal - - sunny, blue skies, about 30 degrees and not too windy.

The ice conditions were also good.

Unlike the slushy surface last weekend, today there was a uniform coverage of 5 to 6 inches of good white ice which was both hard and fairly smooth.

(If I had known beforehand, I would have brought my ice skates along)

Unfortunately, the ice fishing itself was terribly slow.  Two hours of jigging for me yielded just one 10" perch.

There were other groups out there too, but they didn't sem to be doing much either.

Next, I zipped up to the Natural Marble Bridge State Park to do fish Hudson Brook for a littlie under an hour.

(It was the first stream fishing I've done in about a month).

By contrast to Fish Pond, the action was comparatively good.

Although the 7" to 9" brookies that I could see didn't seem interested in what I had to offer, I was able to reel in first a 13" and then a 10" brown.
