Thinking of a build need opinions!

Ive been thinking of building an 8x10 permanent skid house. But over the years ive seen several (one today)that seem to hsve thawed the ice under them and sank on lakes with a ton of ice. Is this a usual problem or is it avoidable? What is the best way to avoid this problem? Thanks

Yes it is a common but very avoidable problem. Water comes up around the house from both the melting of ice and from the weight of the snow on top of the ice. By jacking up the house and putting blocks under each corner of the house you will prevent the problem. Some years you may have to continually slip blocks under. Also by moving the house every once in awhile you can divert the flooding problem. You definitely want to keep ahead of the problem.
