The animation is really cool. Especially when you see how quickly that snow has moved down.

Thanks for leaving out Alaska, well anyway I have included the latest map and a current link at the bottom.

>:(  It is starting to drop down in to mid 20's at night, but then its in the high 40's to 50 during the day...As much as I like Fall for hunting, I could skip past and go right to Ice fishing.

Not a problem here in Alaska. Although I was suprised this year that our first snow didn't come until the end of September and our first permanent snow was in late October. Have 4"s of ice on a local Lake and caught a few as a warm up to whats to come.

Wishin you were here, glad your not!

Sorry about that.  It was not intentional, I just used the map I use for work and I do not watch Alaska, as I do not work with that area.

Lake Metigoshe in northern North Dakota is reported to have 6" in most places .  I won't put a pin, because I haven't seen it myself...but I've heard the pike are biting through the ice.  The pannies are slow right now though, as reports are going.

Iceshanty.com Ice Map 06-07

This worked out pretty well last year. Please make good use of this map.

Please add the following information in your shout out.
Lake or Area name.
Ice thickness.
Date of your observation.
Conditions of ice and snow.

Do not add a pin until you have safe ice.

Click here --> Ice map won't load.

<div><style>a.frappr_promo:hover img{width:209px;height:28px;filter: Alpha(Opacity=100);}</style><embed quality="high" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" wmode="transparent" src="http://www.frappr.com/ajax/ygroupmap.swf" name="frapprMap" flashvars="host=http://www.frappr.com/&lo=1&mvid=4217343" salign="l" align="middle" scale="noscale" width="700" height="500" /></div><div style="width:700px; text-align:left;"><a href="http://myspace.frappr.com/?src=flash_map&sig=myspace_map&src_mvid=4217343" target="_blank" class="frappr_promo"><img src="http://www.frappr.com/i/promo_map_anim.gif" title="Frappr.com" border="0"/></a></div>

Keep in mind you can edit your pin at anytime and update your areas ice info with current information.

This map had not been updated for 4-weeks, or am I missing something?  It's a great idea, and the warm weather this week isn;t helping, rather stalls the fast cool down we'd had this past month.

it's pretty obvious that this map is not very frequently updated, because when I zoom into jackson lake, there are boats still in the water, and the marinas were closed two months ago.  does anybody know how frequently it is updated??? it's supposed to follow "the progression of the ice."

Hopefully this cold air mass coming down out of Canada is bringing some ice to those without.  We have had fishable ice here in Eastern SD since early Dec.  This last 4 days the lake I live on went from 9 to 16 inches.  Daytime highs around ten and overnight lows at zero were helpful.  Once it caps...hopefully this cold air will seal up those lakes in the Illinois area and east to NY.  Good luck guys.

What is the green on the NOAA map?  Above freezing temps?  The ice map is awesome, who came up with that?  Looks like it was built on top of google maps.  It would be nice if people waited until there was ice before adding entries...   :-X

The green area on the NOAA map represents no snow cover. I haven't the time to moderate the frapper ice map properly, everyone please update your shoutouts to current conditions adding the date will help make it more useful also.

For those just adding a new pin. Please add the following information in your shout out.
Lake or Area name.
Ice thickness.
Date of your observation.
Conditions of ice and snow.

Be safe everyone!
