Non-Typical jigging lures
« on: Dec 03, 2005, 12:09 AM »
Has anyone ever tried jigging with in-line spinner like Mepps or Panther Martin?
Also has anyone tired ice fishing with a sinking Rapala?
If so how did they work and what fish species did you use them for?
???

Mmm, a Panther Martin might be worth trying. I love trying new things.  ;)
I don't think the sinking Rap would work as the tie is in front and the bait wouldn't hang naturally.

It would hang about as natually as a jigging spoon.......which seems to catch lots of fish...it might be worth a try, you never know.  I've had good luck jigging small rat-l-traps for walleyes through the ice.  you don't need to lift them very aggressively because they tend to get a little tangles sometimes, but some days they are the ticket.....

What do you mean by sinking Rapala, the Countdwon, or the Rattl'n Rapala? If your talking aobut the Rattl'n Rapala, i read about a lot of people using them as bait. If your not sure which lure it is, check here www.rapala.com

I disagree- jigging spoons are designed to be fished vertically, but ya never know...
I've tried the Rat-L-Traps, too.  ;) The big difference is the placement of the line tie.

When I said sinking rapala I meant the countdown. :)

I know the Rapala rattling rap or other of that nature can sure tick off some fish. :D

I've had some real good days fishing cicada blade baits (silver/glo) in the smallest size for perch and crappie when the fish are aggressive...On slow days where they're skittish they seem to spook the fish.
