Question about green light.....

My question is, I've heard some saying they drop "green light" down a hole to attract crappie at night. What kind of light is this? I've heard of using lanterns above ice but this green light below is new to me. Thanks for any insight!

There are a few different sources for them if you run a Google search.  All price ranges available and all intensities available.  Some cheaper ones on eBay if you want to try one out inexpensively.
