Sunfish Carving for IceShanty Derby getting there
« on: Nov 25, 2006, 08:38 PM »

The rough work on the Sunfish is complete, have about 35 hours invested in the carving, for the up coming IceShanty Derby.
You Boys give me some feed back on what species of Sunfish, you will like to see the carving painted.

Wow hitthewater, it sure is looking good. I am sure a lot of guys can vouch for a ''Bluegill'' pattern for your carving. Whatever you choose, I know it's going to look good. Keep up the good work man :D

That carving is gonna be sweet ;D

Fishing should be the exercise of your skills- and its rewards the places it brings you to

I think a bluegill color scheme would work really well with the carving, especially with that deep body on it. It looks great!

Ok guys,,,, Bluegill it is,,,I will have the finished (Bluegill) Carvings on a Rock bed habitat,,,, I think it should look nice.
Thanks to all that replied with their opinions for the color.
To quickly answer a few questions,,, I have been carving for about six years now, this is my first year fish carving.
I will be trying my hand at fish decoy carving, for a up coming carving show in March.

Eric, nice work; what type of wood do you carve these from?  What type of paint and sealer will you be using?

hitthewater,
You sir are a talented carver. I am a hamfisted bricklayer, studying to be an electrician, in my ever so humble opinion, there is no fish as pretty as a large Redear.

For most of those guys,  it a little skill, with a lot of practice...  start small, read a few books on it,  maybe watch a guy for a couple of days to see the method,  then to get good you need to get your hands in it and practice, practice, practice.... ;)

I had received a few pm's from some of the guys, requesting updates on the Bluegill carving for the up coming IceShanty derby.
This was definitely the right species of fish, I decided to do for the derby, a lot of positive feed back.
This evening I finished the rock habitat, so now she is ready to be painted.
