Can anyone remember a winter like this ?

Moved from NW Indiana to Colorado in mid '04 and all my ice fishing buds were calling in '05 asking about ice reports
 out here and relating how bad it was back there.

Temps and winds have been wildly changing out here, but saving grace has been cold temps @ night

Wish I could send you cold temps, but just not in that line of business

I broke out my metal detector just to get out of the house; my lake was partially drained this year for maintenance. Found cool stuff in the lake muck: old bottles, 25 fishing poles (almost all Ugly Sticks???) many lures and spoons. And hundreds of beer cans and pier nails which I recycled.

I remember the winter Surf is talking about,  didn't get out on the ice till mid january that year.  This year has been pretty poor for ice,  but I made it out for the first time a month ago today.  Its getting cold now, hasn't been above 33 degrees yet this month, had 9 nights below 0 sunday's high was 0.  No temps above the freezing mark in the extended forecast, over a foot of snow on the ground

i found fish BUT DEEP,????why.late ice,weeds still green,???

I remember a winter like this but I was living in Georgia at the time.

this subject came up on ohiogamefishing.com. seems like the weather was similar back in 1978. i know guys who were coon hunting in 60 degrees, and by morning the blizzard hit. 60+mph winds.  my power was off for 3 days. snow had to be hauled out with front end loaders. plows were stuck. 9 people died. cleveland had the lowest inland barometer reading in history. the ohio river froze solid with 12 inches of ice. people walked across from cincy to ky. back then everyone helped each other out when they were in trouble. if it happened today, that might not be the case, unfortunately.
