no doubt there will be a few old timers on here that will remember a winter like this, but i sure don't.  most people are loving it, but for ice fishermen, very frustrating.  i remember a winter with very little snowfall like this, but not warm temps like this.

I sure can, but can't remember the year. Somewhere around 1980 I think. Anyway I was on the water with my boat by the middle of March. The date for removing shacks from the ice was March fifth, but there was no ice by that date.

I'm at the bottom of the ice belt but 05 was warmer than normal.  A good way to tell is look at you local river usgs flood graph.  It has historical floods which corelates to warm rains during ice season or heavy snow that melted quickly.    Good stuff there "Rairdog" .....I'll check it out!.....Zoo.

I sure am glad I don't sell snowmobiles for a living.  Here in the twin cities of Minnesota I'll likely be driving on the ice this coming weekend.  We're finally going to have our first sub-zero temperature of the season this week.  Sounds like a new record for latest sub-zero temp in recorded history.  I'm just glad we're finally getting there!

Nope can't remember a winter where we had this much snow and ice since I moved here in 1997. Last Saturday it was -23* with 24.5 inches of ice and the Rainbow Trout were biting.
I will definitely be needing my auger extension this year. Last year we had @ 4 feet at seasons end this year we will surely beat that mark if this weather keeps up.
By the way for those of you in the lesser 48 I would gladly take you icefishing if you were to visit me in Alaska.
Our local fishing derby starts February first and lasts all month with no entry fee and a bunch of fishing stuff as prizes. A brand new Eskimo power auger and a pile of other fishing goodies.
Sorry you guys don't have any ice yet or for those that do that it is thin. We can't all live in Paradise. ;D

I think it was 2005 when we had thunder storms here in January.

1982 I got my first 10 speed bike for Christmas. Rode it all winter long in Chicago.

That sounds about right.  I was going to say 6 or 7 years ago I was still waiting for safe ice.  I ended up driving 8 hours north to find it.

I remember a lot of warm winters with little ice, but one thing I bet you can count on in a year like this is that at some point you will get one hell of a snow storm with wet heavy snow.
