species identification question.
« on: Jan 28, 2008, 05:02 PM »
If I take my boy to say Moosehead and he catches a thirteen inch brook trout do i need to know the difference between that and a togue. Or if a warden comes can i just say i thought it was a togue with a big smile and he will let me go ;D

Unwritten Iceshanty Rule #1: Under any circumstances whatsoever, NEVER say anything but encouraging words towards a smiling kid holding a fish.

You're missing the point RTD, game wardens aren't out to bust the future generation of fishermen. I think most would let you go with a warning and a little fish "HiDentifikation" lesson. Lighten up would ya.

I would say you need to put the 13 inch brookie back, and explain to the little one that he/she did a great job catching the fish, but it is not the legal size and that there are rules for the proper management for the fishery, and teach respect for the law, and go catch a legal fish.... just teaches the wrong ideas, that the rules don't apply to you...  :cookoo: :callcops:

Same here!  I don't get down that way very often anymore unless I'm headed to the big lake looking for some spring salmon or the winter derby.  I'm sure I'll be seeing you guys around next month on Sebago.  ;)  Hopefully we'll be fishing on the same side of the lake so it won't be a 5 mile trip just to stop in to say Hi.  I tell you....I have got to get you on the stripers for a day.

Sebago oughta be a great time.......can't forget the banquet trip w/ JimP and Flag up to Schoodic either  ;)

is this what you call.....hijacking a thread??   :-\   I sure do hope so  ;D

This is the best thing that could of happened to this thread. ;D
Yeah....I got a few big trips with the crew down on Winni, Sebago, Schoodic, East Grand, and then I'm off to Florida until open water.  I might be able to slip a few trips in the middle also, but I think they might remain a little closer to home.....say a 50 minute drive??   ;)
