There is a bait shortage here in southern Maine. First tourny of the year will need 8000 shiners alone. I think we need to get the traps out and move some South.

oh no looks like the bait dealers have learned something from the oil co. cold weather sets in and the price of oil goes up tourney time and there is a bait shortage that means more $$$$$$ for bait

 Well old Dick takes care of most of southern Maine, and he is driving all over the State right now, in his one tun truck, trying to fill his orders. I wish him luck.

Bait dealers in my area have so many smelts there dying on them quicker than they can sell them.  they have been pounding them this year. Bruce Steves the big drop netter down south was having the same problem.  Maybe not any more but i have a hard time believing theres a bait shortage.  I think its a supply and demand  money issue.

 Plenty smelt around. Need med. to large shiners. J. could score big time, if he could get them here.

 Someone will be selling bait at horn pond in the AM.I don't know how many or what kind. I would get there early, or reserve some at your local shop. If you can.

I got plenty of shiners PM and I got my wholesale licence. Dick called and I told him I wasn't giving them away. I does cost some coin to catch them an if you cant make a buck there is no sense doin it.

Maybe, but in the short run the cost would be steep.  $71 for the license, need a commercially made grader panel, that could cost a good $100 for two sides and a bottom.  That's a bit of money already and you havent bought the real gear!!!!! that costs more just to get started.  Maybe unless someone is going all out in the business handlining with a recreational license or buying them is a better alternative.
