Title: kdrill on an Ion power head
Post by: swnoel on Feb 11, 2019, 09:10 AM
Has anyone done a kdrill on an Ion power head? This is the second set of blades in two weeks that have broken in two. Time to make a change... anyone try it? Thanks

Are you sure that youre getting out of the parking lot and onto the ice before you start drilling?

I would be beyond pissed if that was happening to me!

put new blades on the ion and sell the whole auger. Then, start over with a quality setup like milwuakee fuel and a lazer. No need to spend $200 on the kdrill when a lazer is way faster and its half the price or less. I've owned both so yes, I can compare them. Just my opinion. You could probably get $300-$350 out of that ion (as crazy as that is) and then you could get a damn good milwaukee setup. Or, buy the strikemaster if you don't want to mess with drill setup. However, imo the strikemaster weighs as much as my tanaka/lazer gas setup so the weight savings is not there for me on that setup. Many opinions and variables. Thats why i have a drill setup for 10in and less and my trusty tanaka for thicker ice.

IMO, the ion will turn way too slow to cut with a Kdrill auger.  It will work, but it will take a while to get a hole cut.

thanks.... that's what I was wondering. The k drill has chipper blades and the Ion has shaving blades. I personally have a K drill and my son has the Ion. This is the third year with it and replacing broken blades for $40-45 a pop is too much for him. I might let him try my 8" K drill on the Ion and see how it preforms, but I wasn't sure if the Ion could handle it. I guess we'll find out.

Ion has warranted my blades when they've broken...

If blades are breaking ION should replace them. I know Eskimo does.

Old news about the blades. Call them, get them replaced.

Is anyone even sure they turn the same way?

K-drills like 550 rpm's, Ions are a lot slower than that I think.
