here's what the containers i use look like, i get them empty at "fat nancy's" tackle shop in Pulaski, NY, and put my spikes in them (which i purchase in bulk)

the one on the left is the same size as a mini m&m container, the one on the right is a bit bigger.

RC -

They're just a simple tube.  About 3" long and about 1" in diameter with a simple little flip top with a plastic hinge.  I've found them at Wallyworld (at the "impulse buy" section near the checkout) and most gas stations around here.  I originally started using the same thing a couple years back when a friend of my dad's ran a milk truck.  They use the same thing for sample containers.  Got a bunch of them for free then, and thought they were great.

If you can't find them, PM me and I'll send you some.  Of course, I'll have to lower the shipping weight by "removing" the m&m's first.

Thanks Kero and BigRed,

I do have a couple of similar containers, that I got Spikes in a while ago from a bait shop. You never throw something like that away, some day you may think of another use for it . . .

Now, just have to remember where I put them  :-\

The only thing I found while using a leftover Skoal container was one day I wasn't paying attention and I started to grab a pinch.....the tobacco started moving....I had to look :o   Luckily, I didn't get close to putting it in my mouth!

Fat Nancy is a Salmon not a person.  As you enter the store she is hanging up right in front to greet you! ;)

Before the store got remodeled, they use to keep her outside.........that is until someone stole her!  Fortunately, she was returned "anonymously" unharmed.

Agreed. Lids don't come off unless you want them to. Bait stays dry and won't freeze even on those unforgiving days.

I use the Bait pucks from strikemaster. They feel bulletproof so I think I will be using them forever. Keep something larger in the fridge and then transfer what you need for the day into the puck.

The flat aspirin bottles are great, they fit flat in shirt pocket or in pants pocket, small lid opening let one bait out at a time.

Same here only I put the spikes in the red one, and the waxworms in the yellow one.

Have you tried the large bait puck? I have two of the large bait pucks for storing bait in my basement fridge at home, then when I go ice fishing I transfer from the large storage bait pucks to the smaller bait pucks that I take fishing.

These things are durable to. Droped one and ran over it with the truck, and couldn't even tell it.

Exactly what i do, minus the whole running it over with the truck thing!  ;D

Cant go wrong with the SM bait pucks; solid product from a great company!

I've shifted off the mint canisters I orignally posted about and have gone to Strikemasters as well myself.  Have a couple of big ones for bulk storage and then a couple of the smaller ones for on the ice.

I've tried a few different variations.  One of the better "recycled" ones I use is the small plastic cups from Jack Link's jerkey chew.  You just have to be careful when you're hot on the bite and dig in for a quick bit of jerkey...jerkey shouldn't squiggle in your mouth.  :o  One of my all time favorites, though, is the bait puck from Strikemaster.  Well made, easy to use, and not too high priced.

Go with the Strikemaster Bait Pucks.
-They come in packs of 2
-Have a foam insulated inside to keep the waxies warm.
-They are water proof.
-Screw on and off easy
-You cant crush them
-Cheap 6 bucks for two i think.
They can be found here http://www.strikemaster.com/store/icefish_accessories/bait_pucks.html

Picked up the new Ice Troller Bait Puck Plus at Dicks for $7.99, I like the Dbl ended opening feature and the increased size, less refilling !

Good ol' Skoal can is what I've used for years.  Maybe it's just cause they're so handy.  I do hate pullin out a can and it's the wrong one though.  Tough puttin tobacco on a hook.   :)
