Title: This year, I am not going to
Post by: straightShot on Nov 07, 2019, 08:16 PM
This year, I am not going to break another pole.  I said the same thing last year, but I was careless and broke a few early into the season by leaving them upright in holders on a bucket and then flipping the canvas over on my one-man.  Ouch!

The year before, some poles bounced around when I got pulled by a snowmobile and some rod tips broke inside my large hinged box on skis.  They just didn't do well with all of the shock and vibe.

This year, I am going to be careful ALL OF THE TIME.  I swear.  No more costly screw-ups.  I won't break one expensive pole due to being careless...

I am not going to lose a hemostat, forceps, or pliers in the snow or anywhere else.  The last one I lost, I thought I had it in my pocket, walked into Cub Foods that night, next morning, it was gone.  Somewhere in between home, Cub Foods, it was gone.  Had to grab a different pair before going ice fishing...

This why I have two extras in my fishing bag! Also I picked up a lanyard from I think cold snap clip  it on a pocket flap, right there when I need it!
Keep it safe! JDL

fortunately I have no need for expensive poles.  so, my cheap ones never get broken.  just like my flip phone.  if I had an overpriced phone, it would probably break first time I dropped it.  ;D

sounds lie you better buy lifetime warranty poles man. lol

Don't you hate that?  The last few years, I have clipped mine to the placket of my coat.  Have not lost a pair since.

Every year, I keep telling myself that I will just get some chopsticks and put a little groove on the end to use as a hook remover, but I still haven't.

I remember that one time I lost a pair of pliers on the day it was snowing a bunch.  About a month later came back to the same area and was ice fishing.  Snow had melted and packed down some.  There was something shiny on the ice reflected by the bright daylight sun.  Went to look at it, whoah, my pliers.

I clip them, I lanyard them, I even got them on the zip line.  It's when I remove them and thoughtlessly, whoops.  Always have a back up.

Forget hole covers for my tippys. May elect to not use them but they gotta be in the bucket or the sled every time.

I've busted rods in about every way you can think of. Sort of a Bill Dance blooper video. My old original Ugly Stiks are the only things that have survived the massacre. Wish they still made them with the original layup.

Esox… I'm leaving the hole covers home this year and instead experimenting with Hush Bubbles aerators. Will report impressions on performance.

This year, I am not going to let ice fishing ruin my relationships, get in the way of my social life, or get me in trouble at work.

Haha, just kidding! BRING ON THE ICE.

I had a friend last year accidentally kick his phone into the hole LOL, it was only a about 10 feet deep and we could see it.
It was a Samsung S9 I think, I called it while it was under water and it worked, I give credit to samsung for being sealed :)

My friend was pretty bummed, I still make fun of him.

I will not drop a important piece of medication application down the hole. Done it way to many times. Phones are easily replaceable medicating thru out the day while ice fishing is as important as the fishing. If I hit so do they. :o @) ;)

I am also NOT going to bend over and watch my reading glasses fall out of my pocket and slip down the hole, either.  I won't do it this year because I know that I'm too fast and that it always happens in slow motion.  I know that l'll be able to reach out with cat-like reflexes and grab them the next time.

Use a hard case for your poles.

This year, I’m not going to let anyone else try my drill auger. Last season, even after clear instructions and demonstration, the guy still thrash the hell out my blades. Then when the auger caught bottom like I warned him, he lost his balance, fell over with it and bent the extension. Of course this was mid season and everywhere was out of extensions, and waited two weeks for delivery.

Use a hard case for your poles.

I used a hard covered case last year after breaking so many.  It takes up room, but I can lay it across my sled and open it to get a rod.  Now, I might just get some rod socks to keep them from getting tangled.

Yep, I clip mine to the pull cords on my hoody. Works just fine. I would hate to lose a pair for sure.

Slip on the ice and screw up my shoulder.
