Last October I surf fished in front of it.  Caught some small steelhead.  Have caught perch theough the ice in 25 feet of water in front of the creek.

I surf fish it also. I have probably seen you there. The rainbow and coho are the best tasting I've ever had from that lake.

No Smelt Bite on Crystal, very slow all around.  You can't catch fish setting on the couch but right now it seems the better place to be, lol.

I fished on wed and friday and did pretty good on perch. Good thing there is still a 50 limit!! I noticed a lot of people out off lobb road. I did not fish there. I talked to the game warden. The guy who looks to be native American decent. He said it was a slow week. I have a camera down some times while I fish And did see a few lakers and 1 very nice rainbow. I missed a bite from a laker pretty sure it didn't get the hook just the small spoon part of my lure. ;-(

Had a blue minnow fillet out in 65 FOW no burbot hits. And no puppy's lol
Also tried a small sucker on a weed bed flat set for pike. No flags up . Should start calling those things tip downs.

Third time smelting on Crystal.  Fished from 1730-2100.  Saw zero smelt.  Talked to three other shanties, no one seeing anything.

Talked to a local in town...come to find out...the indians netted smelt all summer on Crystal...hence-no smelt!  Once again, the joke is on us soortsman, and it ain’t funny again.

(Just like the joke about a shortened season or 1 fish per day for lakers on East and West Bays.

First I have heard of this, but if it is true, what a shame.  How is this allowed to happen?  I know this summer there was poorly marked nets north of Muskegon and near Frankfort out on the big lake.  I personally don't have an issue with them netting fish along with the commercial guys but there has to be some accountability for the good of the fishery.

Thanks to our liberal judges, the 2007 decree allows them to net fish in inland lakes

This is the first I have heard about this also.  It wouldn't be the first time there were poorly marked nets out of Frankfort and they do not discriminate on what comes up in the nets.  They take it all.  Big issue in the mid to late 80" on the big lake off the point, downriggers ripped off the back of a few boats almost sank a charter boat.  It was a very ugly time and could be again when facts get out.

The point is, they can net inland lakes and clean them out. Apparently they have at Crystal

It's a shame. Then there is nothing to hold them back from netting all large inland lakes.  :'(

Yes that is one of the points.  Tribes have partnered with a packaging company out of Canada on Lake Trout and Whitefish out of the Big lakes, they must be expanding their efforts and will wipe out our fisheries if not put in check.  The main issues is they are pillaging under a Federal Decree with no regard to any States Natural Resources input or jurisdiction.

The same people netting all the fish will be the same people "Pissing and Moaning:"when there is no fish to net.

For all that follow this thread, I have received a rebuttal to my post on February 26th about reported smelt netting on Crystal.  The rebuttal indicates his graph was full of smelt last weekend...so I am very relieved to hear that.  Just thought I would pass that along.

So what's the story?  No nets?  I understand not catching.  The lake doesn't always give up its fish easy at times and will humble you.  I have sat hours on that lake with nothing then turn on at times..

I was supposed to fish last night and tonight but had a plan changed and had to work.  Going to fish at the end of the next week, if there are fish there it usually picks up the farther the ice goes into this month.

I don't believe you can spear in a designated trout lake.
