Stupid Hungarian needs explanation :)

Hi all,

I found this web site looking for ice fishing techiques. As far as I know we do not use this tip-up tool here in Hungary. Could anybody please tell me  how to use it and how it looks like?

There are many variations but basically, a tip up is a devise that sits on top of the hole & consists of a flag, spool, & trip mechanism.  The spool usually hangs down (underwater).  When a fish takes the bait (live minnow), it trips the flag to fly (signal fish).  The fisherman runs to the flag, waits for the spool to stop turning, picks up the tip up slowly so not to alert the fish of any resistance, & sets the hook with a quick jerk.  The fish is landed by pulling (hand over hand), contingent upon the size of the fish, one may need to use ones fingers as a drag of sorts to play the fish out. The follwing icon is a picture of a tip up after it has been tripped.  Where legal multiple tips ups are set up.  LOTS OF FUN & CAN BE VERY EFFECTIVE.  GOOD LUCK!!!!

(I think this method is not legal in my country, one cannot leave hook with bait without supervision, because You have to hook the fish, not himself

it seems to be a comfortable way of fishing.
just like the one in the movie "Grumpy Old Men" (small wooden house on the ice with music inside), which is very uncommon here

also there are tip-DOWNS.
these are a short rod that balances on a stand like a scale, on top of the ice.
they may have a reel for the line, or line wrapped around 2 pegs.
when a fish hits, the rod tips down towards the hole, and you set the hook your self, bringing in the fish hand over hand.
this is a very ancient way to catch fish.
they can be made with forked tree branches, or whatever.
