predator rigs
« on: Dec 22, 2016, 11:38 AM »
I was just curious for the people that are using predator rigs how they put their hooks into their bait? I use dead suckers so I normally bury 2 of the 3 hooks on the treble hook so just one is sticking out. I am wondering if I should just bury one hook and leave 2 exposed? what do you all think? thanks for any input

I use quick strike rigs and normally put one hook through the upper lip and one through the back behind the dorsal fin. I normally leave two of the three hooks on the trebles exposed. I feel like my hook up ratio has improved since I started using them.

does the bait sit pretty horizontal? I normally run one treble hook on one side of the bait and the other treble hook further back but on the other side of the bait

Yes, for the most part they stay pretty horizontal and swim well. I've also tried what you mentioned, putting one hook below the dorsal and one further back by the tale.

Those things scare the pike away up here. I use #2 hook on a mono leader.
Bigger pike tend to be more skiddish.
