one question about beaver dam with the round tip ups can you adjust it for live bait large suckers  for pike so that the bait won't set it off but the pike will?

Well depending on how large you are taking, i usually cut the tails off on my larger bait so they cannot swim around as much. Far less bait triggered flags this way.

You can also add an O-ring to the little bar that you set the flag on. That way it makes it harder for your bait to set it off. Also as said in the post above trimming some of the tail off helps.

Use a quick strike set up to keep the large bait subdued, use heavier split shot closer to the minnow if you still think it is tripping the flag.

X2 on the "O" ring trick.  Works great and you only put it on one side and leave the other side in case you want to fish Walleyes.  I have also used dental rubber bands to do the same thing.
