Hey all, my name is Mitch, I live in Bemidji, MN. I have lived in the Northland my whole life and love it! Out of my 23 years on this planet I've probably fished for 19 of them. I fish Winnie, Leech, Lake of the Woods, Red, and many other smaller lakes!

Hey fellas,

Checking in.  Its been over 15 years since I have been on the ice.  So, this year is all going to be about re-educating myself.  Ive picked up a few jigs, dug up some old gear, and hope to get on the ice as soon as its safe to!

Heading out to the Expo on Saturday and hopefully I can pick up a few pointers while there.

I go through there often.  I have family about 20 minutes north of there.  Blue Lake is a good lake.

From Pittsburgh, PA but will be fishing LOW from Jan 9-17 -- first time to Minnesota fishing -- but getting way excited about it!  Have fished hard water the past two years in Ontario -- my fishing buddy spent some time on LOW last year without me and is taking me with him this year.  Counting the minutes!   ;D
I'll keep ice fishing until hell freezes over -- and I'll drop a line in there too!

I know that area very well.... I am the garbage man for Como Elementary School and Como High... ;)

I'm pretty sure Como lake is all 4'' sunfish, but hop on Lexington or Fairview Ave and head north into Roseville. You will find lakes Johanna and Josephine up there. There are some more farther north in that Arden Hills, Shoreview, Lil Can area too. You are also not far from White Bear and Forrest if you hop on 35E and head north.

Hey everyone, I'm Brice.  Grew up in the southern metro area (Burnsville) and have done the majority of my fishing on the local lakes (Crystal, Prior, Spring, Marion) and I've fished a few times up on Big Sandy in McGregor.  The ice fishing craze has recently taken hold of me and I can't wait to get out there and get the line in the water.  I've ice fished before, but not enough to consider myself a pro hard-water fisherman.  Looking to meet some new folks and catch a few tips from those who are seasoned in the sport!

Currently living in west central MN.  Rookie on the ice.  I'm hooked on ice fishing now like a habit.  Been on Pom de terre, minnewaska so far.  Looking to get on Reno, tenmile, green, and more very soon.  This site is phenomenal.

Joe, Chisago Lakes area.  Relatively new to ice fishing but many years of soft water fishing.  Struggling with getting my HDS5 to fit in the Ice Pak Lowrance sells.  If anyone has been successful or have modified the pak, let me know.

I tried Como a weekend ago. It was all 4 inch fish! Perch, crappie, and bluegill. It's about a 2 minute walk from my apartment and it's just nice to get out.

Really enjoy reading the IceShanty forum.  Latest learning was how to cook with the Buddy Heater, great tip!  Got "retired" in 2012 and getting back into ice fishing.  Grew-up on the water, ice fishing & trapping the Mississippi backwaters north of LaCrosse.  Checking to see if some techniques of the past are still as effective today.  Now equipped with a portable shanty & fishfinder, I have time to fish the lakes within an hour or so of my home in the Nowthen (Elk River/St Francis) area.

Looking forward to more good reads & some posts!
Henry

You actually have a WHOLE TON of water within an hour of Nowthen...

Welcome to Iceshanty...

FYI... You need three posts before you can see the reports and conditions boards. Some of the members had a fit over people "lurking for info" so the owner of Iceshanty enacted that rule to minimize those who register an account just to read the reports section. Silly or not, that's the way it is. ;) Make a few more comments and you're in.
