Ice thickness
« on: Dec 29, 2023, 08:38 PM »
Looking to go ice fishing at Hebgen Reservoir or Canyon Ferry. Anyone know how thick the ice is near the Hebgen dam?  Also ice thickness at Canyon Ferry by the Silos and a couple miles south of the silos?
Thanks for any information you have.

Nothing I have seen or heard says CF is safe or even close. Next week, starting Sunday, things start looking more like Winter. Cold and snow. Probably 2 weeks away from some ice somewhere on CF. I did see that there is 3 inches of sketchy ice at the Causeway. I saw some posted pictures of perch and trout. The perch are generally further out and the anglers were in a tent/shanty. The anglers looked big so... Not my cup of tea yet. I have not fished the Lake Helena side but heard that there is ice there.

Some of the FB groups had posts today of good ice and pig trout.

This recent cold will certainly grow the ice. CF will be fine except around the moving pressure ridges.
