Saginaw river
« on: Jan 11, 2022, 02:50 PM »
Just left z bridge... 1 white bass no eyes lost 2 fish.... Ice was 5 inches where i was.... VERY cold and windy.... The river is dangerous from liberty bridge to near the mouth where the tug went through.... And possibly past liberty... No pics as my fingers were frozen

A hub and a flipover were at Vets in Bay City yesterday evening.
I cannot imagine there being any more than 3" of ice.
Pucker factor was huge just looking at them as I drove over the bridge.

And a buddy said there were 3 shanties near the Boys & Girls club at Lafayette/Salzberg bridge

As mentioned...river is SHOT from Liberty bridge to Independence Bridge and towards the mouth due to a tug coming thru
so work can be done on that bridge this winter.
But with temps, am sure that stretch and areas by USS Edson should lock up again this week.

Thanks Doe for the reports.
Would it be hard for a couple guys with little knowledge of the sag river
to come up and catch some eye's?

Have the tackle from fishing the bay and Erie..
Just thinking if we can't get on the Bay.

Thanks

Coop

Its easy to get on the ice to where they are.... Finding when they are gonna bite is a different story lol i find that the bite is best when the flow is under 2500 cubic feet per second.... If you google saginaw river flow chart there is a streamage data collector on holland rd bridge..... It tells you the flow and all that.... Right now its at 650 and they are probably jumping out of the holes cuz im not there lol

Will be interesting to see how things go on the river this season.  Been reading comments regarding the slower water flow - you seeing that Doeslayer?

what do you mean like the bite is better when it's slower that's my experience but maybe not everybody's

I heard the water current has slowed down notably as a consequence of the blown out dams - just curious if that's the reality.  Jigging lures aren't carried as far downstream.

Wanting to go to the River this Wed....looked at the wind forecast...uggh.  Question... does the wind speed/direction make any difference on the frozen river?
