I was on Fairlee today. Slow bite, but fun mix of species. Largemouth, brown trout and perch caught.

Right on . How much ice did you have where you set up? Is it safe to venture out over the deep water?  I prefer to set up around the 60-70ft mark when I'm jigging browns.

Deepest Fairlee gets is 50’. Ice was around 6”. I saw people venturing across most of the lake.

Yes it seems that I misremebered the depth chart.   I had at least 7" where I fished today, 45 fow.  Jigged 2 big perch in the 2 hours I had to fish. They were hugging the bottom really hard. Had a 15ft thick wall of smelt cruise through a few minutes before I had to leave. They seemed afraid of my perch/trout spoon,
(small buckshot rattle spoon, my best smelt lure)   and had zero interest in my tungsten teardrops.
DESPITE THE SLOW BITE, I tried air frying the perch and roe. Ended up being so good, I may start considering perch a real game fish again.

My kiddos scream yay and clap when they hear “perch for dinner.” It may be their favorite meal. Although any excuse to eat tartar sauce is a good one for them. :)

The rule changed this year, 200 turkeys. Jan 1st is open season on trout through the ice now.
