Odd Accessories in your sled
« on: Jan 04, 2022, 12:30 PM »
Just curious if anyone has found something that is not the norm that you keep in your sled that makes for a better day on the ice.  I just got a new Nanook Xl thermal, and I am looking for ideas to pimp it out.  I jhave all the normal stuff as flasher, lights milk crates, heater.  Let me know your thoughts and if you try and get out soon be careful.

A foam seat cushion for my feet. I keep one for days I stop to fish on my way home from work. I can be out for a couple hours in my steel toe workboots and my feet stay tolerable with one under them.

Thanks for the tip.  I actually have a couple of those but never thought to use them as insulation for my feet.  I will try it out.

Foam cushion seat or the interlocking foam mats. Just got a dozen of them 1/2" thick and I can't wait to try them out to further insulate the shack and my feet.

Also, I've got a fan/lantern combo piece that you can buy on amazon. It's very light so you can hang it from the top of the shack and use during lowlight periods, AND keep the fan on low to circulate heat.

we watched a drunk at hamilton do it years ago.  he ran out the shanty and plopped a pile out away from everyone.  then squatted over a hole out there and splashed his bass cleanish.  then ran back in his shanty. lmao

If you know someone with a 3d printer, I have found a lot of things on thingiverse.com and other sites for little add ons.  My favorite is cup holders mounted that I use for drinks, bait, etc. all the time

There are these strange things called trash bags..many people on the ice must not know of them. You can pick up garbage and dispose of it after you leave. Best sled accessory  ;D

I have led lights, a dimmer and battery box.  One of those accessory pouches, a bump board, a flex arm rod holder and another one to hold my underwater camera if I’m using it and a couple coat hooks, I also added one of those corner shelves in my 2 man because it didn’t have one.

Greatest invention ever made! Must be old because there's lots of new kids on the ice that have never seen one of those before.

yes or just not toss it down so you have to pick it up.  thats why it gets left behind in first place. i just toss my trash in my sled and pull it out when i get home.  ive seen some groups make a pile then cover it with snow when they leave. others sink bottles and cans down the holes. real nice looking area come spring where they fish.  no reason to be like that.  none!

Found a dried up piece of salami and cheese in a baggie along with an empty bottle of KJ cabernet. Does that count?

For hub fishing i keep an old piece of 2" plastic shelving, some guys call em bread racks. I'll lay a welcome mat over it and your feet & hot beverage stay dry.
The mat doubles as a template for cutting holes.

for throw rope i made a bleach bottle throw rig.  i seen it in infisherman years ago.  put rope loop over hand and toss weighted bottle to victim.  rope feeds out on toss. with cap on it stays ready to go.

Besides the smart remark about trash bags...I actually put a set of long johns and socks in a vac bag and shrunk it down to size of a little cube. Keep it in my car or my sled if I'm doing a long haul. Extra set of dry layer could come in handy some day if someone takes a swim

I glued two earth magnets in my bait pucks and glued two to my shelf in my flip over. If you do it right they stay where you put them.
Also drilled a round hole and a cut a slot in the shelf for my toothpick hook remover and my forceps.

Orbit gum container, i keep my bee moths in them, no losing a lid in the wind. Big lid to fill it, small lid on side for shakin bait out. It doesnt get crushed either. I suppose any old gum container will work tho. Works well in the boat too for crawlers, i always get dirt everywhere, not anymore
