2 hours and 35 minutes from Hancock...about 2 hours from Binghamton.
My boots on some ice... A line down a hole...Some fish on the screen... And a flag in the air !......Winter is Good !!

Exactly 100 different answers on "upstate", to me North of Saratoga , I would choose Schroon. Others North of Rockland County is upstate, and is Western NY considered upstate??

There is a small shallow lake15-20 mi South of New Hartford that I can't remember the name of. Absolutely infested with Pike. Anyone have ideas? It was mostly public shore and next to a road.

The North end of Conesus does have nice size pike.  You can park and access the North end from Vitale Park.  But, you might get into them one day and not the next or vise-a-versa, so plan on staying for the weekend or even a 3-day weekend.  Use large shiners on tip-ups.  The Finger Lakes Bait and Tackle shop (585-414-5586) is at the North end of the lake in the town of Lakeville.  Call them to see if the have pike bait before you leave.  Good luck and hope your son hooks into an 8-10 pounder.

I wouldn't spend the money to come to Conesus Lake.
It is not as productive a pike lake as it once was, in fact it has been poor the last 10 years or so.
We used to average 3 pike each time we went out, and we would go out about 3 times a week once we got ice.
Now you average about 1 pike for every 3 times out. However, you can get some big ones on Conesus.
Seems like my best results on Conesus were from 1995 to about 2009. Very few pike for the amount of time I fished it since.

I like to chase flags, so now we mostly go for pickerel on Canadice Lake. Lot's of fun if you don't mind the smaller size.
