Almost looked like the Derby out there today. Off Fowler, around the Island, off the boat launch behind Stewarts, lots of guys at the Narrows, above the Narrows. With big time cold starting Sunday night through first half of next week, I'm thinking machines would be good for next weekend. Update that later in the week.

How does the south end near Eagle Point look? If the narrows are frozen the south end must be starting to skim up

I drove around the lake Wednesday. South end was mostly frozen up to Shaw Hill. Spotty open water off Adirondack with frozen areas. Haven't been back since, but it's been zero or below last 3 nights, with daytime temps struggling to get out of the teens. With no snow and very cold this coming week everything should button up by next weekend.

Many guys out behind Stewart’s today

fair amount of people out north and south of the launch area.

South end has a bunch open water, wind must be keeping it open. We fished the narrows this weekend and had about 4.5 inches.

I can confirm the ice thickness, vast majority was of good quality to, could see baits almost 10' below the hole through the ice in the popup the ice was so clear. Should pack on some more over the next few days with it having virtually no snowcover.

What do people targets around the narrows? Lakers, perch, pike?  I’m terrible at jig in but can throw out a spread of traps with the best of em

I knew I’d have to step my jogging game up or I wouldn’t be cool enough for the narrows  ;D

20-24 lb pike caught there last few years, if you go in the right spots.  ;)

Thanks everyone for your replies. I may have private access lined up just south of the narrows. This would save the princess a great deal of steps compared to lakes we fish from public access

Thanks for the info. Wouldn’t be this weekend, I would fear that the freezing temps would deter her from ever going again!

Great day behind Stewart's. No concerns at all, like 6-8" of ice. 2-3 snow machines cruising around; a handful of permanent shanties out. Froze our butts off but nice day.

6 to 7 inches south end. Lots of people, all setup relatively close to one another. 2 days prior there were 3 groups out.

Time to move on to other places. ;)

There was still smaller spots of open water well south of Eagle that I saw when I left for the day so depending on how far you venture, be very careful. There are also some ridges towards the south that looked very wet.

I noticed steam in the big basin south of the narrows on Sunday. Wasn't there that evening so assuming it froze over but be careful if anyone is venturing out over that deep hole of the southern basin. With the new snow, it's bound be a super dangerous area for walking or machines

There was open water down there Saturday.

Taking some buddies up to Schroon for the first time this weekend.

Targeting mostly lakers and salmon.  Any spots that access is easiest or any spots to be careful of? Thinking mainly the Narrows and north.

I appreciate any help!

This is a different year on Schroon. I've never seen it freeze this way. There is a bad pressure ridge from just above DeCesares Pizza straight across to the south of the Island. There is another bad one across the usual access point to the right of the boat launch.  Don't go that way. All access should be to the left of the launch. Heard there is a solid 8" black ice pretty much everywhere on the north basin. Watch those pressure ridges though.
