I wonder if the high winds broke up the ice that formed? 🥶
-
Yes looks like crap now.

:%$#!:

so with the pictures posted it seems no one is fishing the station yet? I just found Sebago last summer and have only been able to get over a few times during open water. I only have gone in Oct. and Nov. I tried to ice fish it last winter but I couldn't find info on ice conditions until it was too late. I don't like asking about ice conditions because of all the crap you get but I was going to call a bait shop tomorrow to ask if anyone is fishing yet. I delivery Propane and I am on the NH/VT border so it's a little over 3 hour drive but I really am hoping to get over at least once this winter. I am also looking at staying somewhere for 2 nights nearby so if anyone has any info on a place motel/hotel etc. It would be greatly apricated. I can't wait to pull a Togue from the deeps.
-
it seems sebago is the last to freeze up
not sure on conditions
you can try calling jordans store in sebago
ask for greg in the afternoons i think the station has just froze along with the coves
ktp fishing report has updates on the lake
try in the windham area maybe for a room
lakers are fun to catch jigging ;D

Looks like people out there today….

good news
thx scooby

Two mile long strip over the shoals has opened up. Can see white caps through binoculars. Doubt the whole lake will stay frozen given that wind has picked up. Might refreeze tonight.

never have done really well from the station unless I was targeting cusk at night one of my favorite spots for cusk considering the close proximity to the truck in the parking lot on most warm nights no need for a shack

After Saturday storm will be all slush.

Yeah, got a new open strip from Nason's Beach to Harmon's Point. 4 MPH plus 10 MPH gusts now.. Can't imagine that the Big Bay is going to lock up with 45 MPH winds coming Friday night through Saturday.
Warm temps next week too...

Safe to take a wheeler out a little ways from the station?
-
im not sure...
check as you go
-
They were out off raymond about a mile 2 days ago, was planning on a trip Sunday but maybe next weekend will be a little safer or the Ice might be gone , we just never know
-
Groups have been fishing the 165’ hole in the middle bay since Sunday it had froze two days prior. a pretty large ridge has formed between Indian and the mainland, just prior to it ice was 4” on Sunday. Remainder of lower bay froze at different times and there’s upwards of a foot further in. For those planning on taking sleds out after the storm, take caution to what’s underneath you… there is a lot of sheet ice below you’ll never see, catching a skeg on one of those sheets going 30 could kill you.
-
Please everyone stay off Sebago. It is too dangerous and there are no longer any togue in the lake. Wait until spring when it is much safer.

It's open water from the shoals to Raymond Cape all the way down to Harmons. Going to make for very sketchy ice over that hole with 45 MPH winds blowing white caps down to it from the North.

I agree stay off the ice. But .....lol......no more togue in the lake? I don't think we will ever see that day again

Yesterday before the storm was good. The fish weren’t highly aggressive but enough of them bit to make it fun.

Good eye, yes

Anything can happen and this would be the 4th time this year that it skimmed over end to end but this one was different. Brutal cold this morning with no wind and the ice formed within 10 minutes of sunrise (usually it goes much slower). The other times this year that it went over the ice lasted an average of 2 hours - it's been frozen for 9 hours today. No wind and low temps tonight and tomorrow may give us 2 inches before the warm patch.

what were you fishing for @)
about 8'' of ice (with 4''-12'' of snow depending on where you were) give or take not an exact measurement by any means, Alot more snow by the ramp where it all drifted onto. I was fishing for cusk by the way have done pretty decent in the past right off the station but is hit or miss most nights really depends on how motivated I am with running and gunning
-
nice,at least our getting out
i do better for cusk late febuary, march
thx

-
Has there been any snowmobiles or atvs on the ice
-
Fished it today about 8 to 10 inches of ice. walked out around a mile and the were still other people out farer then that on sleds

From the West shore looking to Raymond it looks like there is either brand new clear ice (acting as a mirror) or that there is a large section of open water. Not sure if you can see in attached picture as it is about two miles out in the middle of lake north of Frye Island.

I am planning a trip to Sebago on the 19th to try ice fishing for the first time here. I have no idea where to start but I do have some slight experience with Lakers at a local lake called Sunapee here in NH. I know jigging is the preferred way to catch but does anyone use tipups and if so what bait do you use? Any info on what to do would be greatly apricated. Its been on my bucket list for a few years now to give it a try ice fishing at Sebago but I work as a Propane Driver that my fishing days are limited and getting away for a long trip is hard in the winter but I am going to give it a shot on the 19th. I'll be walking out although I have an atv but the damn thing is a Polaris 1000xp it is so heavy and with my 250lbs it makes me worried sometimes out on ice I don't know much about.

thats derby week at sebago might as well stay the weekend and get in the derby tip-ups with dead sucker on bottomworks its a 5 trap lake set 4 traps and a jig
-
Thanks for the info. I have another question however. How far do you have to walk out to find the right depths to fish? I have never iced fished Sebago and I wish I had more time to plan this trip. I did not know it was derby weekend as well. At least I will see alot of people out there so I'll get a better understanding on how/where to set up for future trips. I will be using this trip as a learning adventure.
-
A mile out in lake and half a mile from where you park unless you camp out all night.

Yup.
From the DIFW: "Free Fishing Weekend is February 19-20."

I'm 3 hours away and this has been a last minute plan. Does anyone here plan on driving a wheeler out? I have a polaris 1000xp and it is heavy. I have no idea what ice conditions are like and I've never iced fish in 100 plus feet of water. I would love to bring wheeler but don't want to haul it 3 hours to sit on trailer. I can't wait for this day. It will be a learning adventure and next year I'll have so much more idea what its like fishing Sebago Lake.
-
it takes years to learn that lake may fish it mid week let u know the traveling is with wheeler
-
Was out there today all kinds of 4 wheelers, snowmobiles ,and side by sides big and small where all over the ice 8 to 10 inches of ice

I just signed up for the derby, Ive never been to sebago and wont be there until Sunday. I know its old hat to a lot of you, but I just took up ice fishing (late in the game) and I'm hoping for some advice. is there ample parking Sebago lake station? Are there amenities there? We'll be on foot after we park so just trying to figure it out. any advice(other than don't come) would be appreciated. Thanks.

Probably the part that is frozen.

The state park always had lots of parking space.

Thanks, I'll check it out on google maps.
-
not sure there is safe ice on that end of the lake
-
I would not suggest the state park…. You’d be better off with a boat on that portion of the lake, especially, after the forecasted weather end of the week. The Sebago Lake station and Raymond beach parking areas are going to be the main access points. Both of which certainly will be filled early on in the morning. you may find find parking along Rte 35, the ball park or PWD kiosk along the railroad tracks but it won’t come easy. On another note for those who will be traveling on the lake be cautious as of around 1 PM today a pressure ridge heaved up extending from the SE point of Frye’s Island directly across to the East shore with multiple open water spots along it. There’s about a 1/4 mile gap on the east shore that didn’t heave which is safest to travel through. Shifted us over a foot to the side when it formed.
-
I hope the ice holds for the weekend
