Personal Best Gill , Upstate New york
« on: Mar 01, 2011, 11:37 AM »

I caught this gill in 24' of water at the base of a steep drop in a deep rock quarry. There is a very healthy population of BIG gills and also crappies in the lake. Nobody fishes the lake and it seems that it does really well  with not over-populating. Felt like a TANK when I hooked into this fish !

Very nice gill, and those specks are some nice looking fish as well. Sounds like you have a real gem there.

Any Gill over 9 inches is very nice. I was on a small lake earlier that was putting out 9" gills regularly then just shut down, I think low oxygen. I am hoping it picks up again soon, there were only 3 or 4 people fishing this small lake. If word got out about 9"+ gills it would be elbow to elbow fisherman.

These are a couple of the ones I caught this past spring...lake doesn't freeze well enough to get on the ice though... >:(

The bigger weighed in at 15.75 ozs. Caught several more in the 9"+ range

gonna make a good effort to get after some gills this winter instead of just going after perch,
great fish guys hopefully ill have a few pounders to add.
also saw a buddy of mine catch a gill that was the size of a standard clear tackle box, had to be 13 in out of a pond.

Michaelo-goat boy,
The proper way to ask is 'Where is this lake of which you speak?
