10 Day forecast?

The 10 day may look good but around Thanksgiving it looks like back to 40's highs and only around 30 lows.

Thanksgiving weekend I will be heading to SD in search of ice. I’m sure it’ll be there!

Looks like a blip on the radar then back to muskie fishing weather until at least December.

Usually January 1st around here. Got on the ice December 23rd last year.

I would be shocked if there is fishable ice in the central part of the state before late December.

Maybe around Christmas. This weather is giving everyone the itch though.

Yeah, it is seven degrees above zero just south of Cedar Rapids this morning, but we would need to sustain those temps for a few more days to cool down the water and ground around it enough for ice-fishing. That is not going to happen.

Temps are going to go closer to normal for this time of year after today, and that means keeping the auger in storage for a few weeks yet.

I am going to be optimistic and say we will be fishing hardwater here by mid-December. Screw El Nino.

If you look at the data and long range forecasters most are saying this is going to be a weak El Niño and that if you match all the current conditions with past years we are most likely in for cooler that average winter. The earliest it ever starts to sustain cold ice building temps is usually around the first or second weekend of December. This is Iowa not northern Minnesota. I want it to get cold build ice as much as anyone but we have a good month and half to go.

Usually around thanks giving or early dec the ponds have fishable ice in NW Iowa. Just looking forward to getting the Ice Castle out on my yearly Upper Red Lake Ice fishing Trip.
