Email from Maine IFW
« on: Oct 25, 2007, 08:27 AM »
I pasted the email I received from IFW.  I needed to see it in writing before I believed it.

Wendy,

I have heard a rumor that it will be legal to icefish any water at night that is open to icefishing.  Also will it  be legal to fish for all legal species of fish?

Could you please advise if this is true.

Thank you

Tom

Tom,

Yes, night ice fishing will be allowed  on any waters that are open to ice fishing unless stated otherwise.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us again.

Wow! Never heard of micro-managing ice anglers by closing down lakes after dark? Now that is something I have learned here that I never knew. Guess we are lucky in Michigan to be able to fish 24 hours a day/night. I think there would be a State revolution if they ever tried to shut down night ice fishing.  :)

As funny as that sounds, Some Michigan counties do not allow hunting on publiuc land on Sundays. And yes, it was related to getting people into church and for encouraging a day with the wife/family. It is a shame that a few are still that way :'(

Oldfox,

I heard it from you, but I needed to see/hear it personally.  So we have heard it from 2 different sources from IFW.  I belive !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just noticed your emails were from John Boland, if I noticed those were his replys, I wouldn't of emailed IFW.

Jerry you did well,  its people like you that make it happen.  Thank you

Tom

I bet you're right about the special codes, too.  Have to see how the actual rules read when they come out.

Does any one know when the ice fishing rule book will be coming out this year?  Traditionally I dont pick mine up until i get my new license on Jan 1 but im going to try and fish some of the smaller ponds before jan 1 and was wondering what will be open.

I just emailed the IF&W department on Tuesday.  Rae Jean Rossignol replied "We are currently working on them and (with our fingers crossed) they will be available by the end of the month. "
Correct me if I'm wrong but I always thought that the lawbooks go from Ice in to ice out the following year.
