End of Season Slabinators!
« on: Mar 30, 2014, 08:49 PM »

Made it out today for some late ice action...got a late start, did not hit the ice until 10:00. Ice was 12" of solid clear and holding well. Took a hour or so to get in the grove but started catching some NICE gillz!! Several were pushin 10" and had 40-50 over 9"... Managed a few bonus crappie too. Plain lead with a white tail was my go to. Great day to be out in a t-shirt poundin slabz with a few shanty members!

Holy s--- Batman!!! That's as many as I caught all season. Well, maybe? Way to go!!! Looks like it was fast and furious. Nothing like that last ice to turn them on! Nice fish!
I took a drive yesterday in Lake, Porter and Jasper counties and didn't see any ice that I wanted to jump on!

I can vouge for FS81 that there was 16" of ice once you got away from the shore.  4" of white junk on top of 12" of clear ice.  No bubbles, no needling, etc.  Keep in mind this lake had 28 inches at the peak of this winter and that was measured with a tape measure.  So it has lost 12" in the last couple weeks.  Today - tomorrows temps and wind will take care of that top 4" pretty quick and create some water that the wind will move around on top and eat away even more.  Shoreline will take a beating today too.

Made it out this afternoon and meet up with Stinkybaits and Bricker. They had some nice piles already going. It was warm and WINDY which made it quite challenging to say the least. The Ice was going fast! Down to about 8-9" of solid clear with 2-3" of crap. There were spots down to 4-5" and pooling water. Edges were getting nasty. Needless to say it was officially my last day. Managed a nice mess of solid gillz again. Biggest were 9.5" with several in the 9" range. Time to break out the long rods!!
