starting to see bigger crappies and bluegills
« on: Feb 03, 2013, 01:35 PM »

it's been about 4 years since fish wildlife and parks started putting tiger muskies in a pond just outside or town and the bluegills, sunfish and crappies are starting to get a little bigger. Before all the gills were 4 inches or smaller and the crappies rarely got over 6 inches. This ice season I've iced 2 9 inch crappies and my cousin as iced one that I've seen. I've also caught about 10 gills that were 6-7 inches with 2 coming threw the ice :) Hoping that someday there will be a nice panfish fishery someday.
safe ice, tight lines and god bless!

they stock them in lakes here that have a sucker and carp population that are to high to try and help the fish people want to catch obtain a larger size. Wat to many people that catch them at this pond think they are pike and keep either way to many or keep them before they reach the 40 inch minimun to legaly keep one tiger.
safe ice, tight lines and god bless!

Nice fish and even better wildlife story.  Stocking muskies is a different concept.  Reminds me of the time Gustafson caught that 40 pounder and let it go.
