2018-19 Loughborough Laker Watch
« on: Dec 20, 2018, 12:55 PM »
Hey guys
Still no ice to report which is a little strange since some local back lakes have been fishable for a couple weeks. She started and stopped along the shorelines a couple times but I suspect after this warm front ends on Saturday the west end of Lobo will start making ice for good. I will post an update once we get some picture worthy ice going!

Cheers
Jon

Planning on a trip up there (Staying in Westport) mid-Jan.
I have the burning desire to go fishing although I know, that if I never catch another fish, that I have caught enough fish!

Bit of open water by the creek and further down the lake but the west end laker grounds by the launch are pretty much capped now. Still not safe but good start for dec 26th.

Few guys out there today, not sure how they got their snowsuits on with balls that big! Hopefully they are members here and post conditions.

I haven’t gone but heard from a reliable source of 3” of black ice over 80fow. I will most likely wait a day or two to check it out myself.

Went out today for a few hours, marked a few but no bites. Still 3.5” of black ice over 62 fow didn’t venture any further than that. Supposed to be -15 sun night that should add to the ice. Stay safe out there!

I drove by the lake on Sunday and would like to fish there once the ice gets better but have no idea where to access the lake to walk out or any idea where to park.    I'm new to the area and would appreciate some direction.   Thanks

Thanks I can see that on Google Maps.     My Wife and I will be walking out so how far is it to get to Laker depths?     Are there any Whitefish?

Easy walk out, 100m you can be in 40fow. 500m you can be in 80-100fow.
No whitefish

Was out this afternoon n 65'. Marked a couple but no takers. Couple guys out further had good success. Ice was about 5" where I was and the cracking from expansion would make the sonar light up like a Christmas tree!  Didn't bother bringing out the pop up and heater. Sat with my back to the wind, not too bad.

Thanks for the update. The original section of the west end approx out to 80 fow or so has been capped for close to two weeks. With the cold last night the ice has expanded but this just froze last night so if you are heading out this weekend use your spud. You should be able to clearly see the old ice from the new. There is still some open water down the middle of the lake but I think the next two nights of -20 should cap the lake.

You called it JZ the open water capped over and you can see the old from new. I went out this aft for a quick fish. Lost one using a white tube jig tipped with a minnow. Also had 2 bites one I missed the hook set and the other off my tip up both stripped the minnow. About 10 portable huts out today. Again I left my heater and shanty in the truck but was kicking myself as it was cccold!  Oh yeah fished in about 70’ and ice was a good 6.

Was out on Thursday, ice is easy 12 to 14 inches. Entered at the House boat ( just a little above the boat launch. Walked out 300 yards. One other hut out a bit further. Stayed for 3 hrs. No takers on that day.

I saw a SUV on the ice the other day and have seen sleds running the lake. Ice thickness won’t be an issue, freezing to death on the other hand is a real concern!

WTG, nice fish and happy times by the looks of things. Have not been on LOBO yet this year and think I will make the trip for Mon. or Tues. . Toss up between Lobo Dr. or Davidson Beach, any suggestions?
May your tip-up spool while your flag raises with hopes of landing the big one.

Getting older, think I’ll do Lobo Drive, do not feel like doing the hill over at DAVIDSON, Getting down is easy getting up well that can be a little bit harder sometimes. Thinking probably Tuesday morning.

Leaving home Tuesday morning around 4:45 -5:00 am should be at Lobo Dr 6:15 - 6:30. If  an iceshantainian is out there please feel free to pop by. I will be fishing out of a Frabil Commando and I leave my StrikeMaster Electric Auger outside my shack. My Ford Escape will be at the road, the back window has my Amateur Radio callsign on it VE3IVU. The name is Gary.

So far I have only been fishing for wally's out in Quinte this year, but with the season almost over I'm thinking about Lobo... Lakers are open all year round on Lobo right? Hopefully the ice holds up for a while yet so I can extend my fishing season a bit longer.
