depends on barometric pressure
pressure falls-fish eat
pressure rises- fish sit

i plotted my catches time to barometric pressure (unomans's weather station) last couple of years. an amazing correlation. we could see pressure fall from say 1030 to 1 pm, we had plenty of catches during that time and skunked rest of day. this held true for about 80% of the catches

if you look at the sky and see different fronts and weather moving in, it seems to make a huge difference when fishing. right before storms, we have a ton of flags then a little bit in to them.

during a large windy and snowy storm 2 years ago, the storm kept getting worse but flags kept popping. caught a 3 and a 4 pound largemouth right next to each other!

I've had some of my best days when a front was coming in and the barometer was dropping.

A few years ago on Presidents Day we had a storm.....we caught three big pike ( 19.7, 14.4 and a 13.3). At the beggining of the storm, the action was non-stop but as time went on the action suddenly stopped.

I remember one time last year when
a friend of mine and I went out and
the snow was blowing sideways.  We
managed to jig up a pile of perch and
my friend got his PB yellow.  ;)2 ;)2 :roflmao:

Hopefully I can get him out this way again
this year  ;D

Last week I was out in that white out that moved in so quickly. That was the day of all those traffic jams on 128.  Fished for two hours and got nothing on flags or jiggin".  Lenz, your info and data is very interesting.

I do alright on those snowy days - but I think a lot of anglers get lazy or cold when it snows and don't move locations as readily, and that might make them have worse days. Can't beat a sunny 40 degree day and drill a million holes and fish half a lake in one day - if they aint biting, keep moving!
How can you be icefishing if you're sitting at your computer???

Lenz is right...

also...seems like unless you are fishing for trout/salmon right under the ice in early am..... that between 10 and 1 we seem to hit the warm water species if the BP is right..either level or falling...

in that case we get to sleep in a bit and be out there by 8 and not miss a beat... ;)
