Mass. ice is nice!!

Just a quick note that here in south eastern mass.,our ponds are on their way
to being suitabably safe for fishing.
 ex.= checked all these visually
       winnecunnet
       massasoit
       watson's
       nippenicket "the nip"
   (just a few )   I've seen people fishing some spots on these lakes and ponds.

   I will check them out with measurements on wed. this week and I give a report back.(please remember this is a speculation until the ice is checked)

I've been on since the 5th.  Just be safe.  Check your ice. Wear your spikes. 
Keep a coil of rope handy.  Nothing Sally about wearing a PFD until you know
that it is safe.

Wizzard let me know if the ice is safe. Hate to go on the ponds and lakes with a ton of snow hard to see the soft spots
Seems everything should be locking up with these low temps.

We have been out on A-1 the past 2 weeks!

I'll be out checking around the SE mass area tomorrow.   My big worry is of finding two layers of ice.    The ponds look decent on the drive bye but only the chisel will give an accurate answer as to what is there for amount and quality.   I am itching to get out this WE so my hopes are high.

Ice is still solid under the snow pack, I was drilling today and measured 4+ inches in most spots. The tricky part was under the snow pack was slush and it was a mess....Any places that were/are heavily fished can cover up old holes that you may not see. USE Caution out there still..

most ponds in SE mass have a 3-6 inch layer of iffy snow ice and then up to 3 inches of 0k ice.   Some of the  ponds have a layer of water and slush between the wet snow that froze and the skims that were on the ponds before the two snow falls.   Dangerous situation if the wx is not favorable for the rest of the week.  The top layer will turn to crap with very little warmth or rain and the bottom ice is not thick.   Cold nights will join the two layers.
